What is a minibang?
A minibang is a fandom event meant to promote the collaboration between fandom artists, writers, and readers. During a minibang, writers will write a fanfiction, and artists will create an accompanying artwork. Works, both fanfiction and fanart, will be released during a set posting period to create an explosion - or "minibang" - of new fandom content!
What is this minibang about?
This minibang will be centered around the relationship between Genshin Impact characters Xingqiu and Chongyun.
How does a minibang work?
In a minibang, writers will submit a summary of their idea, and artists will select from a list of anonymous summaries/prompts their three choices, in order of preference. Mods will then assign writer-artist partners based on artists' choices. Before partners are assigned, writers should not be revealing the idea they submitted - doing so is in violation of the spirit of a minibang, and the mods will ask you to submit a new prompt if this happens. After partners are assigned, the collaboration period begins! Writers and artists will work together to produce a fanfiction and an accompany artwork (or artworks) in preparation for their posting date!
Who can participate?
We are looking for artists, writers, beta readers, and bookclub members for our event! There is no minimum skill requirement for artists and writers - the event is open to anyone who would like to join! Beta readers will help our writers in their writing and editing process. In addition, we'd like bookclub members to read and comment on our participants' works to show our creators some love!
Can I sign up for multiple roles?
Yes, you may! Please submit a separate form for each role.
What is a pinch-hitter?
A pinch-hitter is someone who steps in for an artist or writer if anyone drops out of the event. Because pinch-hitters are working on a tighter schedule to produce a final work, they will be given first priority when choosing posting dates. If you sign up as a pinch-hitter, you may not necessarily be called in to pinch-hit.
What is a check-in and what will be required at check-in?
Check-ins will be conducted via Google forms. At Check-in 1, writers will be asked to submit at minimum an outline; artists will be asked to submit a sketch and basic color concepts (work does not need to be fully colored). A good point to be at this mark is at least ~25% done with your piece, however much you feel that may be. At Check-in 2, writers will be asked to submit their progress, ideally in the form of a Google Docs link; they should be at or around ~600 words minimum. Artists will be asked to submit their current progress, which should include their cleaned up line work and some coloring. A good point to be at this mark is at least ~60% done with your piece, however much you feel that may be. Check-ins are given 4 days each. Failure to respond to check-ins will result in being dropped from the event and banned from participation in future server-run events.
Is there a deadline to drop from this event?
We understand that schedules can be unpredictable, so there will not be a hard deadline to drop from the event. If at any point, you do not feel like you will be able to submit a final work, please let a mod know so that we can find a pinch-hitter to step in for you. However, please also note that there is a soft deadline to drop from this event: June 30, at Check-in 1. Participants who drop after this date will no longer be permitted to participate in future events run in affiliation with the Xingyun Time discord server.
Is there a theme?
There is no theme for this minibang. Let your creativity run wild! As a note, this is a SFW event, so no NSFW content will be permitted. Minor non-sexual nudity and violence is allowed, but darker themes and explicit sexual content are not.
Am I permitted to submit a continuation of an existing Xingyun work?
No, we would like for writers to bring new fic ideas and content to the Xingyun fandom.
Am I permitted to post an incomplete fic on the deadline?
While we would prefer for our writers to post their works in their entirety, we understand that life can be hectic. As such, we only require that writers fulfill the minimum word count required, and that the posted content is able to incorporate their artist's piece. If at any point you have concerns about your progress, please reach out to a mod ASAP.
What is the minimum word count?
The minimum word count is 1,000.
What is the minimum requirement for artist submissions?
A completed piece no smaller than 3.5 x 5 inches (standard postcard size), portrait or landscape. Traditional and digital artwork will both be accepted. Artwork must be at minimum flat-colored. A background is not required.
How frequently do I need to contact my partner?
Please keep consistent contact with your partner and check in with them at least once a week. Communication is vital for a minibang's success!
Where will final works be posted?
Writers must post their completed fics to AO3 - we will set up an AO3 collection for our event - and artists may post their completed artworks to any social media platform of their choosing.
